TBI State Partnership Grant

Vermont has been chosen by the federal Administration for Community Living (ACL) as one of 24 recipients of a three-year cooperative agreement under two new funding opportunities for ACL’s Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) State Partnership Program. The goal of this grant opportunity is to create and strengthen a system of services and supports that maximizes the independence, well-being, and health of people with traumatic brain injuries across the lifespan, their family members, and their support networks. Vermont will receive approximately $150,000 per year for three years (2018-2022). The Adult Services Division will manage the grant in partnership with the Brain Injury Association of Vermont (BIAVT) and Vermont Department of Corrections (DOC).

The Vermont Department of Disabilities, Aging and Independent Living (DAIL) in partnership with the Brain Injury Association of Vermont (BIA), the Vermont Department of Corrections (DOC), the Vermont Department of Health (VDH), and key stakeholders will, during this three-year project, expand and enhance the infrastructure of the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) System of Care in Vermont.

Vermont’s objectives for the TBI Partnership Grant include:

1) improving the surveillance of TBI in Vermont;

2) improving care transitions for individuals with TBI and their families/caregivers;

3) improving ease of access to programs and community support services;

4) implementing screening for TBI upon entry into the correctional system;

5) creating a person-centered culture in the correctional system for underserved individuals with TBI.
